The History of Barnes & McCullough

Barnes & McCullough started in Stephenville in 1946. Originally two McCullough brothers were the owners. At the time, they had some other locations. As the brothers aged, they turned over the management to one son-in-law, O.O. Smith, who has since deceased. O.O.'s son Jimmy Smith is now one of the principal owners. It is a partnership.

During the past 63 years, Barnes & McCullough has enjoyed a good business in Stephenville and continues to do so at present time. We are a major player in the housing, farm and ranching, and general business in Erath and surrounding counties. Some of the other locations have been sold or closed in the past years. It is still a family owned business. Velon Reese, now deceased, was manager in Stephenville from 1953 until 1986. Harvery Parker has been manager for 23 years.

Barnes & McCullough offers a friendly and caring personnel. We are open Monday through Saturday as early as 7:00 am. You can also see our advertisement at the Empire Tribune. We carry a wide range of products from wood to plumbing to garden care. Stop by and see us!
